Stayed at Riu Garopa/Riu Fununa Cape Verde for a week starting on 24th June 2016 until 1st July 2016

We were informed that the hotel would be closing for renovations after we left on the 1st July however this was not the case and renovations started the day after we arrived. The management made no attempt to keep guests aware of what facilities were closing and you would go to a poolside buffet and find it closed the next day, bars were closed without notification and all in all we could not book a specialty restaurant as they closed them, we were down to one pool, and two bars instead of two pools and 8 bars, food was taken out of freezers, and served half frozen, service was poor as staff were not going to be paid for 4 months whilst the renovations were taking place, all in all we paid to live in a building site for a week and there were 257 complaints to thomson and the hotel however the MANAGEMENT hid you could not speak to a Manager, I managed to collar one on our last but one day, he said it will be nice when it is finished no apology....

services not as described, lack of facilities, staff taking furniture and fittings out of rooms around us from 7.30 in the morning shouting and blocking entrances being told walk around or climb out of the window to get out... all curtains removed from rooms around you at the end of the hotel out of a block of 16 we were the only room with curtains up hello that tells any thief were the tourists are staying and made us feel quite vulnerable as we were staying down in lowest block. Having to listen to jack hammering whilst they took up once of the restaurant floors, the list goes on 1400 for the two of us to stay in a building site for a week. Thomson could not even get any response to their complaints to RIU and many individuals who were not staff driving trucks walking around corridors and making a lot of noise and disturbance.

sitting at the bar one night workmen arrived at 10pm and started to dismantle one of the shops in front of us sitting at the outdoor bar next to the shop, MAD no one listens complained to riu they have not even bothered to reply to my complaint I send them 5 weeks ago to their main complaint department.

I am so disappointed up to now found riu good but this is appalling customer service................... Thomson/first choice no better as they have not go back to us at all and we sent registered letters and e mails to them look out tv going to contact a consumer programe about there awful behavior and service
